rather better than the rest of the world during the last

two years and it has been found possible to make an

estimate for the coming year which is very much on the

standard of preceding years, and which will keep us

abreast of the times and ready to take advantage of the

recovery that is so confidently predicted.

But no

undue risks have been incurred, and I hope that Hon. Members will be able to agree that this Budget, rather colourless though it may be, has successfully found the

proper middle course.
